James Franco will write the film adaptation of author Cormac McCarthy's "Child of God".

The story centers around Lester Ballard, a man who can't follow the social norms, and lives in a world of crime, violence, and perversion.

Franco had previously planned on making McCarthy's "Blood Meridian" into a film, but that is currently on hold.

McCarthy has had two previous novels made into movies, notably "No Country for Old Men", which was directed by the Coen Brothers, winning them a Best Picture Oscar.

Franco has three films in post-production stages: "Maladies", "The Stare", and "Cherry", and is now filming Sam Raimi's "Oz: The Great and Powerful".
