Dude, I'd worry about your poor spelling and grammar before trying to analyze modern technology's ability to reproduce the marvel that is The Dark Tower. I truly believe, if done right, it will be wildly popular and fully on par with other series such as LOTR or Harry Potter, not that I would even seriously compare those to the awesome Dark Tower series. It is very possible to slaughter this book, but all we're really looking for is a good visual adaptation, we need to accept the fact that it requires cutting of seeming vital parts. It happens to all visualized books. Lets be optimistic about this one, shall we? :)

I do not think being optimistic is the correct approach here.

The comic books created by Furth, Jae Lee, and others is a great visual adaptation that evokes great emotion and adds new plot that is in fact questionable, but at least respectable by the dark tower loyal readers.

Movies these days are being adapted into theatrical pictures from books way too much, and most movies suffer tremendously in comparison to the books.

Hollywood is not about providing stunning moving pictures that will be analyzed by movie and book lovers, it is a business, that has a found a niche in the movie industry where movies are created from well loved books over generations where a target market can be clearly identified and marketed to.

To top it off, they ruin the legacy of the books many times to try to capture a larger market and grab new watchers to the movie.

I think it is a bad idea, and I am very scared that Stephen King's journey (or the poets) may be destoroyed by the directors (and hollywoods) need for conclusive endings... someything King stated many times is not the purpose of his series.

Purdon my spelling and grammar, unlike the retard who started this interesting topic, I am drunk.

Oh, stop yer whining, ya damn drunk.

2010 - Is this a Truth or wishful thinking?

Can someone tell me where it is written, or who said what to make the assumption that a DT film is actually in the works for starting or even eventuating in 2010?? Whats the full story on the film situation? Tell all, or be called a big tease.

I agree, the technology for movies nowadays is certainly fine in order to make an awesome movie series for the books, the one problem would be capturing the true essence of the books in how the encompass so much from multiple sources. I'm not so much optimistic as I am anxious as to how it all turns out. J.J. Abrams has done a stupendous job with Lost, and I was incredibly glad to hear that he would be the one to head the Dark Tower project. It also helps that King is still alive, much like with the Harry Potter series, it greatly improves the chances of the movies being up to there potential. I think the best part is that Abrams is waiting to finish the Lost series before even starting on the Dark Tower series, so that at least gives them some time to think.

I would hope that SK would have a large part in what would be adapted. We have all seen what has happened to his other books-to-movies and that would ruin it altogether.

Anyone have anymore info on it yet? Casting? Say true, I say thank ya!

Dark Tower Movie

I think the Dark Tower Series should become a TV series to make it justice. Movies generally have a limit of 2-3 hours tops of running time, and that just won't do it to build the characters and environment.

Plus, some of the Stephen King stories that were made into movies tend to leave out a lot of info, or it becomes a different story all together, for example, Hearts in Atlantis. It blew, because it had no relations to the book or Dark Towers. Although I do like the movie MIST, it kinda linked to the Dark Towers.

In my experience, the fans of any Genre like this always create a better work than the professionals in Hollywood and such.

Yes, I could go for a TV series as well, as long is it is shown on HBO or showcase and doesn't have to transform to pg 13 to please the masses.

not on most stations

It would only be able to be done as a tv series on hbo because to do it justice you could not give it a pg or pg13 rating

mist is directly tied to the dark tower. it takes place in the keystone world. its when they make the doorways, and the monsters are the todash monsters.

the reason the painting is in the begining is obvious look up who directed it.

also the technology is perfect to make this movie, what do you want, holograms?

this movie will have a pg13 rating no doubt in my mind

i highly doubt a 2010 release i think that date is a bullshit leak.

no pg-13

I bet the rape scene with Odetta and the incubus type demon would be great if it was made to be pg-13. Lets be serious anything less then a R rating would just cut way to much out of the story and leave to many none readers lost. it would also take away for the grittiness of Rolands world.

casting?

the technology is apt enough to make the film, it's not that that I'm worried about. I'm more concerned with them taking ultimate creative license and changing key parts, and the casting. For a Movie like The Dark Tower to even be comprehended, you need to tell the whole story as is, if even one little piece is missing then there are others farther down the line. I saw elsewhere that someone thought that Hugh Jackman would be a great Roland....are you JOKING? that would be awful! Even when we meet Roland for the first time in The Gunslinger it's a bit apparent that he's a disheveled mid 40. Whoever ends up being the casting director will have to understand that in Rolands world The life expectancy is low so being, feeling, acting old comes in the mid 40's and makes him seem in his mid 50's, granted a very able 50, but Hugh Jackman is only 41. as for other characters, I have yet to see an actor or actress that even made me remotely think they were even decent for a role in a movie(s) such as this
