Big disapointment coming!

I am a big fan of DragonBall and DragonBall Z and when I read about the making of this movie, I was pretty excited, but worried too. Now I just watched the trailer and it's going to be really bad! It has only very little to do with the DB Universe, and the action doesn't even seem to be good! I can't believe this is from the same producer as Shaolin Soccer! Shaolin Soccer was amazing.

Hi Guest,

I didn't say the movie will be bad. First of all, by definition, a trailer is showing the best of the movie, as this is to catch the attention of the potential audience and make people come to theaters, so a trailer is basically "better" than its movie. Therefore, making an opinion about a film based on its trailer is normal. That's the purpose of a trailer! Secondly, I didn't say the movie would be bad in of itself; in fact, the trailers are showing a pretty good action-packed movie. However, I still say it has nothing to do with Dragonball, and that they shouldn't have named the movie Dragonball just for marketing purposes. Given characters the same names as those of the magna is not enought. In no way will there be the atmosphere of the Dragonball manga saga.

Dragonball, and cashing in on a name

I totally agree with you. It actually might be a very fun movie to watch, but Dragonball? Naw, they've just gutted the story, tossed up a few bits and pieces, and filled in the rest with whatever was floating around in their heads. This is a Stephen Chow movie, remember, and Stephen Chow tends to be all about himself, for better or for worse.

Personally, I found the Hollywood-ish style of casting a pretty little white boy as Goku to be very distasteful. Still, my feelings aside, I don't doubt the movie will be very well done and even entertaining.

Dude, I completely agree. Just from the gallery pics and the trailer, here's what I've gathered...

1. You'll likely be able to count the number of accurate "special abilities" on one hand.

2. Shenlon? Eternal Dragon? I predict a no-show...

3. The Dragonballs were made on planet NAMEK by the goddamn NAMEKIANS. Which PICCOLO is ONE of. I'm curious to see what his origins are now.

4. I am TOTALLY with choosing Chow Yun-Fat as Master Roshi, but the make-up artist failed miserably...not only was Roshi BALD but he had unruly amounts of facial hair. and something like aviator glasses.

5. Ever seen the "Dead or Alive" movie? This will be *slightly* better, but only because I'm a diehard fan of the series.

6. PICCOLO. DUDE. LOOKS NOTHING LIKE HIM. Seriously, it's like Gollum and Miracle Max (from The Princess Bride) had some kind of anal butt-baby. Plus, since when did he EVER wear an armored body suit that looks like it was taken from the set of the Chronicles of Riddick? he had a friggin martial-arts gi, a turban and a big white cape. DAT'S IT. and gloves...? um, no. the skin color is near-caucasian, a far-cry from the SUPER GREEN he's supposed to be. and the antennae? WTF? This guy would feel more at home in a Lord of the Rings movie.

7. COSTUMES. ALL OF THEM ('cept Roshi's; barring the lack of sunglasses his was actually spot-on). Bulma's is a blatant imitation of Tomb Raider, I already mentioned Piccolo's, and Goku...dear God. As I recall, he wasn't an Abercrombie & Fitch yuppie.

8. Missing characters: I'll bet 20 bucks we don't see...Puar...Oolong...Krillin...

9. Mai? Um, first of all she followed GARLIC around with that dog-guy, not Piccolo. Second, she wore a big green trenchcoat, not some trashy cleavage-busting outfit. The hair length was off too, but I can let that slide.

13. Umm...bulma's bike was in a CAPSULE made by CAPSULE CORPS which is why bulma is RICH remember? It didn't unfold like in the trailer.

14. The movie itself might actually be good, if the trailer is anything to go by. Granted I'm in for disappointment since I'm a fan, but as far as a general action movie I've got high hopes.

The movie is OK.

The movie opened in Asia on March 13 and my friends overseas said it is not what you're gonna to expect. Basically it's the 'Batman Begins' formula where the hero's costume and true abilities are not shown until the end of the movie. The biggest gripe was the special effects - didn't seem 'state of the art', although the 'HameeHameeHa' (I apologize to the DBZ fans for my spelling') scene was very good! It seems like this film will appeal to those between the 4-15 age group. Not much 'real' martial arts going on, primarly 'Hollywood-Fu' with alot of flipping and spinning. Go watch this movie so they can make a sequel that will hopefully do justice to the anime.

waste of time

first of all, sorry for my bad spelling,

i am going to make it short! i am a big fan of dragonball saga since i can think!

i understand that they had to cut the crap, just to be able to make the whole thing alooooooooooooooot shorter, but then they cut out allot of fun carakters like curilin(goku's best friend by the way!!!), tien-han, chaos, Puar, Oolong and many more!!!

why did they made this movie anyway?? they just could spent all this money on a very good dagonball movie-like serie and make fans like me and 10 million others happy every F*** week!!

now, all you got is a pussy white goku!(wasn't there any other japanees-american actor available at this moment or what????), a spandex wearing picolo(pfffffffff...the whole action took maybe 3 minuts!! beaten by one kamehameha blast!!hahahahahaha...°, a 2 meters long ape-goku!(what happend to the 150 meters beast????), and finaly, i dont care if Roshi is not wearing glasses or have or hasn't hair on his head, but since when can goku transform in a ape without a tale??????, where the F*** is goku's tale??????

i realy hope they dont make an other one of this phony dragonball movie. back to the drawing board people!!! please at let try to impress us a litle bit!

4 years>>? wtf recall on a movie anybody
