After a first experience with the adataption of The Iliad with the film Troy, released in 2004, it has been reported that Warner Bros. is developing The Odyssey, the second half of Greek Poet Homer's masterwork.

For this second movie, Variety says Warner Bros. is hoping to sign Brad Pitt (already present in Troy) and George Miller to direct the movie.

Another epic movie in the works!

Yes

Troy is my FAVORITE movie of all time. Though its details are slightly off the acting and entertainment was solid. I hope Brad Pitt is involved and acts in the Oddyssey.

Troy Made Me Throw Up In My Butt

I could feel Homer turn over in his grave and punch the guy next to him while I was still in the theatre watching the absolutely insulting adaptation of his epic masterpiece, The Iliad. Troy was a very, very bad movie and symbolizes everything wrong with Hollywood. Anyone who has studied the epic poem will agree with me. It wasn't Brad Pitt's fault that the movie sucked, but he and Warner Bros. should have nothing to do with The Odyssey.

If you want to see a good adaptation of Homer's epic poetry, check out what The USA Network did in the past decade.

Couldn't agree more!!

I couldn't agree more! Hollywood butchered Troy beyond recognition, having people die who were suppose to live and letting people live who were suppose to die. How INSULTING! The only thing that they got right was the Greeks went to war with Troy and Achilles killed Hector, everything else was absurd! And since they killed off Menelaus, you can't have the Odyssey because that jacks with Telemachus going to see Menelaus to inquire about his father. However, I will say that the acting was superb and the fighting sequences were excellent, but you can't expect that to make up for the lack of accuracy.

I don't get why people don't know what adaptation means. Just because the movie is based on the Iliad doesn't mean it has to be exactly like it, or even close. Some movies are meant to capture a previous work, and some are just loosened adaptations, where the directors could completely change the plot. This is purely for entertainment, and it would be smarter to not compare the movie with the poem. If if were to compare I would agree the movie wasn't great, but in these kinds of movies I just watch as if it is was never meant to capture any other work. In that sense I find the movie really deep and quite amazing.

I'm not totally against an Odyssey movie following Troy.

But if they're really going for it, the only place Brad Pitt is showing up, is in the underworld scene.

I guess this means Sean Bean in the lead?

NOOOO!!!!

The Iliad and the Odyssey were both about Odysseus and the movie was neither about him nor the actual war. The movie was about Achilles who was important but not that important and the war had so much more happening than what the movie showed. The books had even more than that. I mean with the amount of description Homer put into the books I don't see how you could have messed it up as bad as with Troy as they did unless you didn't read to books at all, which is the most likely explanation.
