Just one month before its release, Paramount Pictures has announced that, "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," the sequel to the 2009 G.I. Joe movie, is being pushed to March 29th of 2013! This is a nine month delay. The official reason is that Paramount Pictures wants to convert it in 3D to deliver a full thrilling experience to the audience.
That being said, and from a personal point of view, I am surprised that such film has not been filmed directly in 3D. I know that Hollywood has decided to stop filming everything in 3D, but for an action pack movie like G.I. Joe, I would have thought it was filmed in 3D right away.
Now, and if I don't make mistake, another Hasbro franchise, the film "Battleship," starring Liam Neeson, Taylor Kitsch, Rihanna, is not performing as expected. So inevitably, it's making me think of a worry to record two failures in a row.
Also, I notice that, with an end of March release, Paramount is no longer placing "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" in position of a summer block buster. Maybe it says it all...
By the way, on March 29th of 2013, G.I. Joe will face another serious competitor in the name of "The Host," the adaptation of the novel from Stephanie Meyer ("Twilight Saga").
