Released on November 19 of 1956 in the USA, "Seven Samurai" (also known as "Shichinin no samurai", "Les sept samouraïs") is a film directed by Akira Kurosawa, and written by Hideo Oguni, Shinobu Hashimoto, and Akira Kurosawa , starring Toshirô Mifune (Kikuchiyo), Takashi Shimura (Kanbê Shimada), Keiko Tsushima (Shino), Yukiko Shimazaki (Rikichi's Wife), Kamatari Fujiwara (Manzô - Father of Shino) and Daisuke Katô (Shichirôji).

Takashi Shimura and Akira Kurosawa (director) have been associated in Warui yatsu hodo yoku nemuru, released in 1960 in which Takashi Shimura portrays Administrative Officer Moriyama, Yoidore tenshi (1948) portraying Doctor Sanada, Rashômon (1950) in which Takashi Shimura portrays Woodcutter, Kagemusha (1980), Ikiru (1952) (character: Kanji Watanabe), Tengoku to jigoku (1963) (Chief of Investigation Section), Ikimono no kiroku (1955) playing Domestic Court Counselor Dr. Harada, Shichinin no samurai (1954) in which Takashi Shimura portrays Kambei Shimada, Kumonosu jô (1957) as Noriyasu Odagura, Yojimbo (1961) in which Takashi Shimura plays Tokuemon, sake brewer. As an actor, Takashi Shimura has performed in movies such as Ikiru, released in 1952 as Kanji Watanabe, Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964) in which he plays Dr. Tsukamoto, Tengoku to jigoku (1963) in which he portrays Chief of Investigation Section, Miyamoto Musashi kanketsuhen: kettô Ganryûjima (1956) in which he plays Sado Nagaoka the court official, Nippon tanjo (1959) portraying Elder Kumaso, and Ikimono no kiroku (1955) as Domestic Court Counselor Dr. Harada.

Isao Kimura has been directed by Akira Kurosawa in Kumonosu jô, released in 1957, Shichinin no samurai (1954) (Katsushiro Okamoto), Ikiru (1952) as Intern, Tengoku to jigoku (1963) as Detective Arai. As an actor, Isao Kimura has been seen in movies such as Kumonosu jô, released in 1957, Kome (1957), Kozure Ôkami: Jigoku e ikuzo! Daigoro (1974), Tengoku to jigoku (1963) portraying Detective Arai, Ansatsu (1964) (character: Tadasaburo Sasaki), and Ikiru (1952) (character: Intern).
